Linguistic project 1

At Saint Martin School, we do everything we can to ensure that all students, starting in preschool, are introduced to foreign languages, especially English.

That’s why, since 2019, we have implemented an English-language project led by two instructors.

LIZ ABBOTT

Originally from England, Liz has been part of our school since 2019. She comes in every Friday morning to work with students in 2nd and 3rd grade (CE1/CE2) as well as 4th and 5th grade (CM1/CM2).

During her time at school, students enjoy full immersion in the English language.

To support this learning, Liz also offers after-school workshops. (Please contact her directly for more information)

MARIE-AMÉLIE HEINZL

Marie-Amélie Heinzl has been working at our school since September 2021.

She teaches on Tuesday afternoons in the preschool class (TPS–PS–MS, ages 2–5) and twice a week in the Kindergarten and 1st grade classes (GS & CP), introducing students to the English language.

This early exposure to English is done through songs, educational videos, stories, and fun hands-on activities.

Since September 2023,
we have launched a project called

« Language Discovery »

From preschool through elementary school, children are at an age where learning foreign languages comes most naturally. They are curious and eager to learn new things, and we take great joy in nurturing their curiosity and helping them grow through their learning experiences.

From preschool (TPS) to 5th grade (CM2), children are introduced to sign language through songs, activities, and games.
Mr. Jaccard’s class also explores German for a few weeks during the year.

Throughout the year, some parents also come into the classroom to introduce students to new languages.
For example, last year the Kindergarten and 1st grade class (GS–CP) welcomed several mothers who spoke different languages. The students got to learn a few words in Spanish, Ukrainian, and even some Occitan, among others.

The 4th and 5th graders (CM1 & CM2) also discover Occitan through workshops led by Mr. Jullien, President of the Parent-Teacher Association (APEL).
